Okay… I need some opinions for those of you who like or use biodegradable cleaners in your home.
What are your favorite products (that aren’t insanely expensive)???
We use Method Tub-n-Tile for our bathroom and I really like it. It has a eucalyptus mint scent, which is my favorite part I think. (I’m such a smell person!) I don’t think it’s that great on the tub grime, but I am intense on things being really clean, so that may just be me. It’s not that much more than regular bathroom cleaners either.
We’ve also used some Seventh Generation stuff – dish soap and dishwasher detergent etc - which has been great, but haven’t ever tried their household cleaners.
Anyway, I’d love you guys’ input if you have any because I’m caring more and more each year about being earth friendly and of course, really care about being “kid friendly”… as well as just a lifestyle of simplicity (meaning don’t want it to cost a million dollars or have to drive 50 miles to purchase or have to squeeze 35 lemons to make my own household cleaner).
So favorites?

I haven’t gone green on my supplies yet, but I have done some research on the subject for the last couple of months and from what I’ve read, you can save a LOT of money by making your own. Vinegar (mixed with your own favorite scented oils) and lemon work great on countertops and sinks. For the bathtubs and toilets, I’ve read that baking soda works well as an abrasive, and you can moisten it with lemon, oils, etc. in order to make a paste.
I like the do-it-yourself method. It’s more fun. And I know all of the ingredients and that they are safe for my children. That’s what I’m ramping up to do this week, along with INTENSE potty-training….I’m gonna need his patience.
But along with people-friendly & earth-friendly products, I have delved into the world of wholistic medicine, and from experience, can say WOW-it works. From the head of our household to the dog, our family has been improved. I have friends that have had their cancer ILLIMINATED through all-natural methods of healing. I have watched it time and time again and am an avid believer. Our God created this earth, and though the restoration of all things has not yet come, this place, in it’s natural form, is not ALL destitute. Not yet, anyways.
AAAAALL that to say, if you ever have any questions in that area or with sickness, pain, etc. I will give you all I know and research and try anything I don’t.
I never thought I would be “one of those people”…”the organic breed”, but alas, my hypocrisy seems to know no end. LOL.
Sorry so long. Hope this helps. I’m trying the healthy cleaning products this week-I’ll let you know how it goes.

We use Shaklee stuff. The basic H cleaner works for counters, floors, as a degreaser, for dusting, and for windows, and mirrors. It is concentrated so I have had the concentrate for a year of cleaning and have only used about 1/6th of it. I think it is around $11. It has no scent and is completely safe for babies and children. The only thing it can’t clean well is something that requires scouring (like bathtub rings…)
They also have a germ killer that is much less potent than bleach. It is concentrated as well and I will probably have that bottle for 10 yrs. at this rate! Hope this helps.

We use Shaklee and it’s great. They have a whole huge line of stuff- the only part I don’t like are the clothes detergents, simply because I am a smell person too, and there’s just no smell. (their tub scrub cleaner is AWESOME) For clothing I love trader joes stuff, or 7th generation. Melaleuca has products I always trust as well.
My grandmother has serious allergies and for years has made all her own products, she’s one of the cleanest, and healthiest at age 88, women I know… so that should say something!
I am hesitant to you use and buy a lot of the natural products out there. There is something to be said for alcohol and bleach. The family I just finished working for hated using it, and this winter we all had a different cold/flu every week. EVERY week! The 4 year old is being tested for hearing loss, so many infections. At one point, as soon as they left the house, I started going around and sanitizing the door handles, and everything with a really tough bleach cleaner. We all stopped getting sick, and the last 3 months were healthy. Was it related? I tend to think so. I have no proof, but it does make me more suspicious then ever of a lot of these products that are so natural and gentle that they don’t really clean anything.
And that’s my 2 cents worth.
lol…
